Heralded as one of the most beautiful American coin designs ever created, the Walking Liberty design has a long and distinguished history. From its debut in 1916 on the half dollar to its rebirth in 1986 on America's silver bullion dollar, the design has served as a beautiful representation of America's pursuit of liberty. The Walking Liberty half dollar was designed by Adolph A. The main image of Weinman's design is a grand Lady Liberty.

Draped in the American flag, Liberty carries bundles of oak and laurel branches representative military and civilian honors. She strides towards the dawn of a new day, represented by the rising run. On the reverse of the half dollar, a majestic bald eagle grasps a Mountain Pine sapling, another symbol of America.

Almost 40 years after Walking Liberty's last appearance on the half dollar in 1947, the design was reborn on the American Eagle silver bullion dollar. The dollar is the largest silver coin issued by the US Mint, and the heaviest, containing 1 oz of fine silver.

Weinman's design is reproduced with exacting detail on the front of the dollar, while the reverse, designed by John Mercanti, features the American eagle from the Great Seal of the United States.
