This issue had the highest mintage to date for the Walking Liberty Half Dollar series, a reflection of America's entry into World War II with its heightened economic activity. Well struck and lustrous gems are readily available through 67. A very minor doubled-die obverse is known for 1941(P) halves. Also found is a die state in which the designer's monogrammed "AW" has been polished off of the die. This is very common on the proof edition, and it's possible that the currency strikes lacking these letters may have been coined from the same dies after they'd been retired from proof service.
